Second Opinions on Dental Implant Treatment
Last updated
Implant treatment is a significant decision — surgical, financial, and long-term. Getting a second opinion before you commit is not distrust; it is what careful patients do with significant decisions, and any good dental office understands that.
Why patients ask for one
- The quote is large, and it is hard to tell what it actually includes.
- Two offices recommended different plans — say, extractions and a full arch at one, saving several teeth at another — and there is no obvious way to compare them.
- You were asked to decide on the spot and would rather decide at home.
- You were told you are not a candidate — often “not enough bone” — and want that answer re-checked against current imaging.
All four are good reasons. Treatment philosophies genuinely differ among competent dentists, and quotes bundle components differently — which is exactly why a second set of measurements and a second written plan are useful.
What our second-opinion visit includes
A second-opinion consultation here works like any consultation: an exam, imaging, and a conversation, ending in a written, itemized plan. Itemized means each component is its own line — the implant post, the abutment, the crown or bridge, and any preparatory work such as extractions or grafting — each priced, with a realistic timeline. If we think a tooth can be saved, or a simpler restoration serves you better than implants, the plan says that instead.
What to bring
- Your existing treatment plan or quote, if you have one — it helps us address the same teeth, point by point.
- X-rays or CT imaging from the other office, if available; your current office can provide copies on request. If not, we take our own.
- A list of medications and relevant health conditions.
- Your questions, including the uncomfortable ones. Write them down; visits go fast.
No pressure — in plain words
The plan we give you is yours to take home. Compare it with the one you have, sleep on it, discuss it with whoever you trust. If our recommendation matches the first one you received, that is useful to know; if it differs, you will see exactly where and why, line by line. You owe us nothing beyond the visit, and no one here will chase you toward a decision.
